It's Come to This
This is my current kitchen (complete with dirty dishes). It's tiny. We're talking, if two people are in there prepping food, neither better be wielding a knife. Too close for comfort. But it's perfect. Takes two and a half seconds to clean, and it more than meets my needs.
Here's the thing, I hate to cook. It's just the way it is. The first dozen years of my adult life were spent solo, so it wasn't a pressing matter. Now, I have a husband (who is super patient with my ineptitude nevertheless enjoys eating) and a baby (who presently doesn't eat food but might want to someday). I could let them fend for themselves, but there's this wifely/motherly desire to help out in this area. Sort of. Not the kind of desire that motivates me to really overcome my weakness, but the kind of desire that prompts me to find a way to beat the system. I want my family to think I cook without that being the case.
You see, it's not just the cooking I despise. I'm not into planning. I'm terrible at grocery shopping. I dump too much wasted food in the garbage because cooking for two is tricky. So, you know what I did? I googled "simple recipes." You know what I found? Entres that called for, like, ten ingredients (many of which I'd never use for any other dish). Meals that took, like, thirty minutes to make. Terminology I didn't recognize... This wouldn't do. You know what I did then? I googled "simple meals for kids." Didn't help.
I've contemplated the plight of all my fellow cooking haters. And I'm going to do us all a a favor. I'm setting out to find and test the most simple (and appetizing) recipes out there. Tune in for my reviews. And if there's something you think I should try, please send it my way!
